Admit it: this is a question we ask ourselves every winter! Cold temperatures sometimes prevent us from wearing that pretty little light dress or going out without layering up... To avoid looking like the Michelin Man and stay chic without getting cold, discover our 4 tips!
Choose appropriate materials
Some materials are warmer than others. You should focus on these materials to create a trendy winter wardrobe that will allow you to face the cold in style.
-
Wool
In sweaters, dresses, or even accessories (hats, gloves, scarves...): wool is the undisputed star of winter!
There are many types of wool, allowing you to change your style without fear of the cold. You can dare to wear mohair (so trendy in the 80s!), alpaca, cashmere, or simply timeless sheep's wool.
-
Silk
Silk is a chic material, known more for its shiny and precious appearance than for its thermal properties. In fact, silk is a material that has thermoregulating properties: it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. So you can confidently fall for a silk blouse or a little silk dress, which you can wear all year round!
-
Cotton
More affordable than silk or wool, cotton is also a very interesting material to stay chic in winter. You can stay warm by wrapping yourself in a cotton sweater, provided you choose a very thick model.
-
Linen
Like silk, linen is well known for its thermoregulating properties. This natural material has been very trendy for several years. But it has one drawback: it wrinkles very easily! If you're a neat freak, you might not like it ;)
Play the layering card
Have you heard of the "onion technique"? Here, we're not talking about cooking, but about layering clothes to stay warm. However, it must be done carefully, following a few rules.
-
No more than 3 layers: opt for warm materials and don't exceed 3 layers, otherwise you risk looking like the Michelin Man.
-
Focus on classic combinations: shirt + V-neck or crew-neck sweater (a unisex combination), long wool cardigan + dress, sweatshirt + long skirt...
-
Wear easy-to-remove clothing: the risk of layering is that you can quickly get very hot! So opt for pieces that are easy to remove (sweater, cardigan, jacket...) if needed.
Have a warm coat
This seems obvious, yet sometimes we fall for a coat more for its look than its composition. Opt for coats containing at least 50% wool and that close easily.
Also remember to have a windproof coat in your winter wardrobe. A parka is a good solution, as it can be both chic and casual. A windproof jacket will keep you warm even when temperatures are very chilly.
Adopt the thin puffer jacket
Our last tip, which we quickly adopted: the thin puffer jacket! It can be worn alone or slipped under a coat. In this case, it's very useful for continuing to wear that trendy coat you fell in love with, but which isn't that warm...
The thin puffer jacket is unisex. It is worn by both men and women. Choose a plain model in a timeless color (navy, black, grey, white...) to keep and wear for years!
